Landfall 231Aukati appears in Landfall 231. In 2015, this story won third prize at the NZSA Central Districts competition, judged by Dame Fiona Kidman who commented:

“An authentic rendering of the characters … it tackles issues that confront young people, like friendship, bullying, the power of belief systems, and loss. It is a brave story and I congratulate the writer for taking on these issues.”

The Homeless Men of Mahuika appears in Issue #4 of Headland: Literary Frontiers & Emerging Voices.

Ruapehu Press 26.11.14Fishing the Pungapunga won the 2014 Heartland short story competition. It appears in the December 2016 edition of Antipodes. The judge for the competition was William Taylor, local writing legend and internationally acclaimed author for young adults. Here are his comments on the story:

“An eminently satisfying story of a young boy going fishing with his mother . . . A sad little tale and no easy resolution is in sight. Millen is a fine story-teller.”
